The United Arab Emirates is the only Arab country aiming for an innovation-driven economy. Therefore, the UAE is developing and upgrading its innovative system as part of its drive for a knowledge-based economy. This effort took the UAE to rank 33rd globally & 1st regionally among the 132 economies featured in the Global Innovation Index GII 2021. What are UAE’s achievements in innovation? Advanced education system  

The UAE treats education as a top priority, and they invest in it to increase educational attainment rates and establish a high-quality education system. And to attain innovation in the education sector, computers, and smart devices have been introduced in schools which increased the development of education in the UAE.  

Increase the number of E-higher Education Institutions in the UAE

E-learning is needed to achieve innovation, therefore the United Arab Emirates is expanding the creation of higher e-Education institutions in the country.  

Complexes & Research Institutions to Enhance Innovation

The United Arab Emirates is establishing complexes and research institutions, and technical institutes to promote research, creativity, and innovation. Examples for complexes and research institutions and technical institutes: 

  • Abu Dhabi's Masdar City 

  • Dubai Science Park 

  • Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park 

  • Arab Institution for Science and Technology in Sharjah 

  • Technology and Innovation Center in Ras Al Khaimah 

  • The Centre of Excellence for Applied Research & Training (CERT) 

Be'tha scholarship programme

Launch Betha scholarships programme initiative that provides emirati students with scholarships to be specialized in telecommunications and information technology, including computer engineering, electronic engineering, and computer science. The initiative comes as a by-product of the growing demand for the UAE’s national human resources specialized in the telecom sector and related fields. ICT Fund has invested massively in the Betha programme to award hundreds of undergraduate and master's degrees at prestigious UAE and international universities. 

In addition to what is mentioned above, the following achievements have helped in increasing innovation performance in the UAE:

  • Spreading and providing information and communications technology to the public 

  • Encouraging the culture of e-learning in the governmental and non-governmental sectors 

  • Formation of the Supreme Committee of UAE Innovation from several federal agencies
