Stressful Jobs and Bad Diets Fuel Heart Problems in Young UAE Residents

Doctors in the UAE say heart disease is no longer just an “old person’s problem.” Work stress, lack of sleep, and fast food are pushing more people under 50 into hospitals with serious heart issues.

At Medcare hospitals and clinics across Dubai and Sharjah, nearly half of the patients admitted with heart attacks in 2024 were below 50. That’s about 10–15 years earlier than what’s usually seen in the West.

Why So Many Young Cases?

Stressful jobs, always-on online meetings, junk food, sugary drinks, and even family history are stacking up the risks. Post-Covid stress and lifestyle changes have only made things worse.

Doctors also say people in the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia are experiencing heart attacks up to 10 years earlier than patients in Europe or the US.

AI Steps In

The silver lining? New tech is stepping up. A smart blood test called Cardio Explorer uses AI to scan health markers and predict the risk of heart disease with 95% accuracy. It’s less invasive than traditional scans and gives doctors a better chance at early prevention.

One 35-year-old Emirati patient, for example, looked fine in standard tests—but AI flagged him as high risk. With a new exercise and diet plan, he’s now working on lowering his chances of a future heart attack.
