UAE Launches New Federal Authority for Ambulance, Civil Defence

Big news for the UAE’s emergency and rescue sector — a new Federal Authority for Ambulance and Civil Defence has just been formed under a decree by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The new authority will take charge of both ambulance and civil defence operations, replacing the old Civil Defence Authority and National Guard Command for matters related to the National Ambulance Company.

Who’s in Charge?

Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, the UAE’s Minister of Health and Prevention, has been appointed as the Chairman of the new authority. The body will report directly to the UAE Cabinet, operating with full legal, financial, and administrative independence — meaning it’ll have the power to make its own calls when it comes to emergency response and safety measures.

What the New Authority Will Do

This isn’t just a name change — the new authority’s job list is packed. It’ll:

  • Develop national emergency strategies

  • Manage crisis response and evacuation plans

  • Oversee building safety and fire prevention

  • Coordinate with local and federal entities

  • Lead disaster preparedness and pollution hazard monitoring

It’ll also support vital industries like oil, aviation, and infrastructure, making sure emergency services are ready for anything.
