What are the New Regulations for Fishing in Kalba?

The Ruler of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, has issued Administrative Resolution No. (2) of 2024 AD, introducing new fishing regulations in Kalba.

According to the resolution, fishermen in Kalba are now required to follow designated routes and are prohibited from entering restricted areas to reach their fishing locations. The restricted zones are marked by floating signs (buoys), and any fishing activities within these areas are strictly forbidden.

Furthermore, the regulations specify that fishermen are not allowed to export their catches or sell them outside the Kalba region. However, they are permitted to display and sell their catches in the markets within the city. In the event of fishermen having their equipment confiscated by the Environment and Protected Areas Authority, the resolution ensures compensation for the period of unemployment caused by such actions.

Additionally, the resolution establishes a special committee tasked with studying and proposing appropriate compensation for injured fishermen. The proposed compensation will be subject to approval and includes committee members Major General Saif Mohammad Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, Chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, and Muhammad bin Shahraan, President of the Kalba Fishermen’s Association.
