What Motivates Us To Help Others? Key Brain Region Identified

We have a tendency to be altruistic, helping others even when that is not particularly beneficial to ourselves. Researchers have long been interested in explaining this behaviour, to understand why we naturally feel generous or empathetic. New research identifies a particular part of the brain associated with prosocial behaviour, providing insight into the biological basis of altruism, while also demonstrating the role of environmental factors and experience in our desire to help others.
