Rome got a whole lot more historic this weekend, as Isaac Del Toro of UAE Team Emirates-XRG wrapped up the Giro d’Italia 2025 with a jaw-dropping second place overall — not bad for a Grand Tour rookie.

At just 21 years old, the Mexican prodigy became the second-youngest rider in Giro history to make the podium and the first-ever Mexican to win the Maglia Bianca (best young rider classification). Not to mention, he’s also the first from his country to even wear the iconic white jersey. Huge flex.

Del Toro’s performance wasn’t just record-setting — it was emotional. After three grueling weeks of racing, he and his teammates crossed the final finish line in Rome with a team classification win, plus two stage victories (thanks to Juan Ayuso and Del Toro himself).

The UAE squad kicked off the tour strong in Albania and never let up. Ayuso took a mountain stage in week one with Del Toro close behind, and then Del Toro made headlines again in the third week with his own maiden Grand Tour stage win.

Oh, and did we mention Del Toro wore the Maglia Rosa (overall leader's jersey) for 11 consecutive days, breaking a record held since 1940 by none other than Fausto Coppi? No big deal.

“Del Toro came of age on the grandest stage,” one official said — and we couldn’t agree more.

The Giro finale saw teammate Brandon McNulty finish 9th overall and Filippo Baroncini claim a solid 7th on stage 21, giving UAE Team Emirates-XRG a highlight reel season opener to remember.

TL;DR: From the Grande Partenza in Albania to a Roman celebration, UAE Team Emirates-XRG just gave cycling fans a show — and Del Toro? He’s the future.
