Dubai Drivers Must Pre-Book Vehicle Tests Starting June 2

Starting June 2, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai is changing how vehicle inspections work. If you’re heading to a technical testing centre, you’ll now need to book an appointment in advance using the RTA Dubai app or the website (www.rta.ae).

This update follows a successful six-month trial at Tasjeel centres in Al Qusais and Al Barsha, where booking ahead helped slash wait times by nearly 50%.

Walk-Ins Still Possible—But There’s a Catch

If you prefer to just show up without an appointment, you still can—but it’ll cost you. Walk-in services will be available at 19 centres across the city, but you’ll have to pay an additional AED 100 fee for the convenience.

No Walk-Ins Allowed at These Eight Centres

For some centres, walk-ins are no longer an option at all. You must book ahead at these eight locations:

  • Wasel Arabian Centre

  • Wasel Nad Al Hamar

  • Shamil Al Adid

  • Shamil Al Muhaisnah

  • Shamil Nad Al Hamar

  • Al Mumayaz Vehicle Testing Al Mizhar

  • Tasjeel Al Tawar

  • Tasjeel Al Mankhool

Who’s Exempt From Booking Rules?

Not everyone is required to book in advance. Dubai-registered vehicles owned by senior citizens and People of Determination are exempt. Also, Tasjeel Hatta centre will continue to accept walk-ins without the extra charge.

Why the Change?

The RTA says this move is all about making things smoother—cutting down congestion, shortening waiting times, and improving the customer experience across the city’s 27 testing centres.

If your vehicle is due for a test, it’s time to get familiar with the app—or pay extra for skipping the line.
