A Filipina remains in critical condition after suffering serious burns in a fire caused by a gas explosion at a restaurant in Dubai’s Al Barsha area.

The incident happened late on May 13 at the Al Zarooni building on Halim Street, near Mall of the Emirates. The fire started at the Pearl View restaurant on the ground floor of the 13-storey building and quickly spread. Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) confirmed the blaze was triggered by a gas leak.

65% burn injuries, long road to recovery

Annalyn, who lived directly above the restaurant, suffered 65% burn injuries and is currently in the burn unit of a government hospital. Her sister, Angely, shared that Annalyn’s condition is critical and she has undergone a tracheostomy to help her breathe.

Her husband, who was also injured in the explosion, is in more stable condition and recovering in the hospital ward.

Family facing emotional and financial struggle

Angely, a nurse based in Saudi Arabia, has yet to travel to Dubai to be with her sister. “Ever since I got the call, I’ve been extremely worried,” she said. “Burn recovery takes a long time and comes with high medical costs. We’re concerned about how they will manage from here.”

Couple lived in UAE for over a decade

Annalyn and her husband have called the UAE home for more than 10 years. She recently shifted jobs from receptionist to working in a gym, where her husband is also employed. Both were at home preparing to sleep when the explosion happened.

Residents displaced after fire

Following the fire, several residents were forced to find temporary shelter with family and friends. DCD officials managed to contain the fire quickly, preventing further damage.

The incident has raised concerns over gas safety in buildings and the long-term support needed for victims of such disasters.
