Filipino tennis star Alexandra “Alex” Eala is back in the spotlight, headlining the 2026 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. The tournament, held at Zayed Sports City’s International Tennis Centre, runs from January 31 to February 7, bringing top-tier women’s tennis to the capital.

This marks Eala’s second appearance at the WTA 500 event and continues her trailblazing journey as the highest-ranked Filipino in WTA history.

Eala’s Rise on the WTA Tour

At just 20 years old, Eala has made headlines with a series of historic achievements:

  • WTA semifinal at the Miami Open 2025, defeating three Grand Slam champions

  • First Filipino woman to reach a WTA final at Eastbourne

  • Maiden WTA 125 title in Guadalajara

  • Career-high WTA ranking of No. 50

“Playing in Abu Dhabi in 2024 was amazing. The support from Filipino fans and the atmosphere really inspired me. I’ve been working hard and can’t wait to come back stronger in 2026,” Eala said.

The Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open has confirmed three headline players so far:

  • Belinda Bencic, defending champion aiming for a third title

  • Alex Eala, Asia’s rising star and Philippine tennis trailblazer

  • Victoria Mboko, Canadian teen with an aggressive baseline game

The eight-day event will feature qualifiers through finals on Feb 7, giving fans plenty of opportunities to catch world-class tennis in action.
