Gitex Showcases Affordable Bionic Limbs and the World's Fastest Robot

Gitex Global 2023 showcased affordable bionic limbs, which are at a fraction of the cost of high-end prosthetics.

They were showcased at the Expand North Star conference for start-up businesses at Gitex.

South Korean company Mand.ro is offering 3D-printed devices that can be controlled by sensors, so patients do not need to undergo an expensive surgical implant.

These bionic arms operate using ultrasonic sensors in a band attached to the patient's forearm, which sends sound pulses to the person's muscle tissue and sends the command to the prosthetic limb, which moves in real time.

Over 600 people are using the bionic limbs in South Korea and more than 100 individuals have been fitted with a bionic hand in Jordan.

Mand.ro can create a custom-made bionic hand for $4000, compared to the usual cost of $100,000 for a robotic prosthesis.

The South Korean company is keen to expand in the Middle East and other countries because there is a huge demand for this kind of prosthetics.

Gitex also showcased the fastest walking robot developed to date.

The humanoid robot is called Artemis (Advanced Robotic Technology for Enhanced Mobility and Improved Stability), which was developed by UCLA's Samueli School of Engineering.

Artemis can run at 2.1 meters per second, which makes it the world's fastest robot.

The robot is able to walk and run on rough and unsteady surfaces. Artemis will remain steady even when it is shoved.

The goal of developing this robot is to be useful in everyday life.

There is a tournament Robocup International Autonomous Robot Soccer Competition, where robots play football.

The developers aim to develop a team of robots who can play against human World Cup champions by 2050.

Gitex will run till Oct. 20 at the Dubai World Trade Center, so don't miss out on the chance to visit the biggest tech fair in the Middle East!
