Philippine Government Puts Roblox on Notice Over Child Safety Concerns

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has put Roblox on notice, citing serious concerns over child safety on the platform.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda announced the move on March 18, warning that the platform could face restrictions—or even suspension in the Philippines—if it fails to strengthen its safety measures.

Why Roblox is under scrutiny

Authorities flagged reports of the platform being used for sexual predation, grooming, and exploitation of Filipino minors.

Beyond that, concerns are also growing over bad actors allegedly using Roblox to expose young users to extremist or violent subcultures.

Government warning

Aguda made it clear: Roblox needs to step up its moderation and cooperate with the government—or face consequences.

The platform, which has around 380 million monthly users globally, has long been popular for its mix of gaming and user-generated content, especially among younger audiences.

What happens next

It’s still unclear how far the government will go. Officials have not confirmed whether restrictions would require a court order or could be enforced directly.

For now, Roblox is being closely watched—and the pressure is on to improve safety systems fast.
