Private Companies in UAE Encouraged to Offer Flexible Work During Ramadan

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) confirmed that private sector workers are entitled to two fewer working hours per day during Ramadan.

No complicated formulas. Just two hours off your usual schedule.

It’s part of the nationwide adjustment that happens every year during the holy month.

Remote Work? Strongly Encouraged

MOHRE is also pushing companies to embrace flexible and remote work options within approved working hours.

The message is simple: trust your teams, focus on output, and create a supportive environment.

The ministry said flexible arrangements help balance productivity with employee wellbeing — which fits the spirit of Ramadan, known for generosity, understanding, and community.

What Companies Are Being Asked To Do

MOHRE encouraged private employers to:

  • Stick to the officially reduced working hours

  • Be mindful of fasting employees when assigning tasks

  • Schedule fieldwork within adjusted hours

  • Organise shifts to maintain efficiency and business continuity

  • Promote a culture built on respect and collaboration

In short: keep business running, but do it thoughtfully.

Why This Matters

Under Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021, MOHRE regulates working hours across the UAE, including the maximum hours allowed during Ramadan.

So this isn’t just friendly advice — it’s rooted in labour law.

For many young professionals juggling long commutes, gym plans, and late-night iftars, these reduced hours can make a real difference.

Ramadan shifts the rhythm of the country. And for the next few weeks, work is officially moving at a slightly softer pace.
