Sheikh Mohammed Kicks Off Dubai Metro Blue Line

The Dubai Metro is growing again — and this time, it’s going blue.

On Monday, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, officially laid the foundation stone for the first station of the Dubai Metro Blue Line. It’s a big step in Dubai’s smart city journey — and it’s backed by an even bigger investment: AED 56 billion.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sheikh Mohammed wrote:

“I laid the foundation stone for the first station of the Dubai Metro’s Blue Line, a station set to become a new architectural icon added to Dubai’s renowned urban landmarks…”

Here’s what the Blue Line is bringing to the table:

  • Total length: 30 kilometers (15.5km underground, 14.5km above ground)
  • Total stations: 14
  • Major interchanges:
    • Creek Station (Green Line)
    • Centrepoint Station (Red Line)
    • Dubai International City Station 1
    • Dubai Creek Harbour (Iconic new station)
  • Connected areas: Mirdif, Al Warqa, International City 1 & 2, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Academic City, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, Dubai Creek Harbour, and Dubai Festival City
  • Direct airport access: Yes — straight to Dubai International Airport

Once complete, the new Blue Line will push Dubai’s total metro network to 131 kilometers and 78 stations, reinforcing the city’s vision for sustainable mobility and smart urban development.

The Dubai Metro isn’t new to smashing records. Since its launch, it's carried over 2.5 billion passengers, with nearly 900,000 daily riders as of last year.

“We continue to develop Dubai… we continue to build the best city to live in the world,” Sheikh Mohammed said.

Why it matters:

The Blue Line isn’t just another metro extension — it’s a key integration point linking the Red and Green Lines, and it directly serves some of Dubai’s fastest-growing residential, academic, and commercial districts.

More trains, fewer traffic jams, and faster trips to the airport? Yes, please.
