The UAE National Railway Network Launched on Thursday

The national railway network was officially launched on Thursday by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.

The main line of the UAE National Railway Network spans from Ghuweifat on the Saudi Arabian border to Fujairah and is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the area. Its engineering plan called for the construction of 593 bridges and crossings as well as nine tunnels with a combined length of 6.5 kilometers as it travels across a variety of geographical terrains. Excavation work required 120 million cubic meters to be completed.

"It connects four major ports in the country and seven logistical areas and can transport 60 million tonnes of goods annually. It was accomplished with the cooperation of 180 federal and local authorities who worked 133 million working hours,” said Sheikh Mohammed during the launch on Thursday.

By 2050, the UAE rail network is anticipated to have a 200 billion AED economic effect and will cut carbon emissions from the road transportation sector by 21%, and emissions from road transportation per person by 40%. The anticipated worth of Dh200 billion would help boost the country's economy. It will also assist in reducing road maintenance expenditures by Dh8 billion. The network is expected to provide Dh23 billion in tourism benefits.

The project's team included 28,000 professionals, 25 consultants, and 11 contractors. It received 40,000 nods of approval from 180 administrative bodies. The construction of the rail network has created more than 1,000 operating papers.
