Abu Dhabi Airports Welcomes Record 29M+ Passengers in 2024

Abu Dhabi Airports, the operator of the emirate’s five commercial airports, reported record-breaking growth in 2024, reaffirming its status as a leading global aviation hub. The company facilitated 29.4 million passengers, marking a remarkable 28.1% increase from 22.9 million in 2023. This growth was driven by network expansion, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to delivering a world-class travel experience.

Zayed International Airport Leads Expansion

Zayed International Airport (AUH) played a key role in this success, expanding its connectivity to over 125 destinations with 29 new routes. The airport also welcomed eight new airlines, including British Airways, Air Astana, Aegean Airlines, US Bangla Airlines, Akasa Air, Hainan Airlines, Flynas, and Turkmenistan Airlines.

The surge in travel demand is reflected in a 10% increase in aircraft movements across Abu Dhabi’s five airports, rising from 226,362 in 2023 to 249,747 in 2024. This growth was driven by high traffic from key markets such as the UK, India, Qatar, and Egypt, further strengthening Abu Dhabi’s position as a global travel hub.

Record Cargo Growth

Abu Dhabi Airports also recorded substantial growth in cargo traffic, handling 678,990 tonnes in 2024—an impressive 21% increase from 560,434 tonnes in 2023. This surge highlights the emirate’s rising importance as a global logistics center, supported by investments in cutting-edge infrastructure and technology.

Enhancing Passenger Experience

The company remained committed to improving passenger experience through significant infrastructure upgrades. The completion of the Northern Runway Rehabilitation Project ensured continued operational efficiency, while the introduction of the new US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP) facility—the only one of its kind in the Middle East and Asia—streamlined travel for US-bound passengers.

Innovations like biometric touchpoints at check-in, self-service baggage drop, and e-gates further enhanced efficiency and convenience for travelers. Additionally, AUH achieved the ACI Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation, introduced a Sensory Space, launched the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Programme, and opened a dedicated Pet Relief Area to cater to diverse passenger needs.

Investment in Economic Growth

The Abu Dhabi Airports Free Zone (ADAFZ) saw major expansions in 2024, reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification strategy. Notable developments included the groundbreaking of an AED85 million warehousing facility in Al Falah District in partnership with MSM Logistic and a Musataha Agreement with Radius Group for AED320 million worth of warehouse developments. The construction of the East Midfield Cargo Terminal (EMCT) also contributed to Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation as a business and investment hub.

Recognized for Excellence

Zayed International Airport was crowned the World’s Most Beautiful Airport at the prestigious Prix Versailles, recognizing its outstanding architectural design. The airport also expanded its retail experience, introducing 28 new retail outlets, bringing the total to 157. AUH was honored with the Best New Duty-Free Shop award and a highly commended recognition for Best Airport for Retail at the DFNI Global Awards.

Additionally, AUHotel, a modern 138-room hotel, was launched within the airport, providing travelers with comfort and flexibility during their journeys.
