Abu Dhabi Issues Traffic Restrictions for New Year's Eve 2026 Celebrations

Abu Dhabi has announced temporary traffic restrictions ahead of New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations, introducing movement bans for heavy vehicles and labour buses across the capital to manage congestion and enhance public safety during festivities.

The ban will take effect from Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at noon until Thursday, January 1, 2026, at 6am, covering Abu Dhabi Island. During the same period, labour buses will also be restricted along the Abu Dhabi–Al Ain Road (E22).

Separately, vehicle movement on Hazza Bin Sultan Street in Al Ain will be limited from noon on December 31 until 1am on January 1, 2026, authorities confirmed.

The restrictions apply specifically to trucks, heavy freight vehicles and labour transport buses, which will be prohibited from entering or circulating within core traffic zones. Such measures are regularly implemented during major national events to maintain smooth traffic flow.

Officials urged motorists and commercial transport operators to plan routes in advance, use alternative roads outside the island, and adhere to all traffic directives to avoid penalties and potential delays.

The move forms part of the broader New Year traffic management plan designed to ensure a safe and organised environment for residents and visitors welcoming the new year in the capital.
