Dubai: 971 Prisoners Pardoned by Sheikh Mohammed Before Ramadan 2023

Prior to the holy month of Ramadan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the release of 971 prisoners from Dubai's correctional and punitive establishments.

The initiative, according to Essam Issa Al-Humaidan, the Attorney General of Dubai, demonstrates Sheikh Mohammed's intention to reunite the pardoned individuals with their families and provide them with an opportunity for a new beginning.

Prisoners can often be pardoned by the rulers of the UAE's emirates during major Islamic holidays, especially Ramadan and Eid.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the president of the UAE, ordered the release of 1,025 prisoners on Tuesday. The release of 151 inmates has also been mandated by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Fujairah, in observance of the holy month of Ramadan.
