First Ever 3D Map Of Human Colour Receptors Revealed

The molecule responsible for humans’ sense of color, and its secret weapon against vision loss-what a fascinating story! Researchers from the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Switzerland have determined the three-dimensional structure of the most important proteins for vision in their entirely inactive, “dark state”. The study published in Science in June 2026 opens the door to new ways to treat age-related macular degeneration and colorblindness.
