New AED1000 Banknote to be Released and Circulated From April 10

A new banknote with Dh1,000 made of polymer has been released by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) for market distribution. Starting April 10, 2023, the new currency will be offered at banks and exchange houses.

The CBUAE wanted to emphasize the UAE's success narrative in the new banknote design by incorporating images and cultural and development icons that represent the country's groundbreaking international achievements, which have helped it rise to the status of a developed country in record time.

The futuristic vision and aspirations that the UAE successfully achieved as a pioneer in space research are represented in the new banknote's design. In honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's encounter with Nasa pioneers in 1974, the new banknote's front side features a picture of him next to a model of a spaceship.

The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in Abu Dhabi, which will be crucial to the nation's efforts to expand its energy sources and limit emissions of carbon, is depicted on the opposite side of the new banknote.
