Saudi Arabia Urges Moon Sighting for Dhu Al Hijjah on May 27

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Court urged anyone who sees the crescent, either with the naked eye or using binoculars, to report their sighting to the nearest court and give testimony.

The Court also encouraged volunteers to join the moon-sighting committees set up in different regions of the country. These committees play a key role in confirming the Islamic calendar dates and supporting the wider Muslim community.

When Will Eid Al Adha 2025 Begin?

According to astronomical predictions by the Emirates Astronomy Society, Eid Al Adha is expected to begin on Friday, June 6, 2025, if the Dhu Al Hijjah crescent moon is spotted on May 27.

That would mean Arafah Day falls on Thursday, June 5, followed by three days of Eid celebrations through the weekend (June 6–8).

However, if the moon isn’t sighted on May 27, Dhul Qadah will complete 30 days, and Dhu Al Hijjah will instead begin on Thursday, May 29. This would shift Eid Al Adha to start on Saturday, June 7, and Arafah Day to Friday, June 6.

What This Means for UAE Residents

If the original prediction holds, UAE residents can look forward to a four-day public holiday, from Thursday, June 5 to Sunday, June 8. It’s the perfect opportunity for travel, family gatherings, or peaceful reflection.

Keep in mind that these dates are subject to official moon-sighting announcements closer to the time.
