UAE residents are likely to get a long weekend in June 2025, with Arafat Day expected to fall on Thursday, June 5. The public holiday will likely be followed by a three-day break for Eid Al Adha starting Friday, June 6.

The final dates will be confirmed by the UAE moon-sighting committee closer to the time.

Yes, Arafat Day is officially recognized as a one-day public holiday in the UAE. It falls on the 9th of Dhu Al Hijjah in the Islamic calendar, which is one day before Eid Al Adha.

What is Arafat Day?

Arafat Day marks the second day of Hajj, when pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat near Mecca. It is considered one of the most important days in Islam.

Eid Al Adha to start on June 6

If moon-sighting predictions hold, Eid Al Adha will begin on Friday, June 6, and continue for three days, until Sunday, June 8.

This would give UAE residents a four-day weekend starting Thursday, June 5, and ending Sunday, June 8.

What is Eid Al Adha?

Eid Al Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, honors Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion when he was willing to sacrifice his son as commanded by God. The festival involves prayers, charity, family gatherings, and animal sacrifice, with meat shared among loved ones and those in need.

It’s the second major Islamic holiday after Eid Al Fitr, which follows Ramadan.
