UAE Announces Eid Al Fitr & Friday Prayers to Be Performed Separately

The UAE Fatwa Council announced that Eid prayer and Friday prayer will be performed separately in the Gulf country if Eid Al Fitr falls on Friday, April 21st.

"The issue of performing Friday prayer if Eid Al Fitr falls on Friday is a controversial matter among Muslim scholars," the council said in a statement.

"However, the council rules that each sermon is to be held separately on its time as per its sunnah."

The council invokes verses from the holy Quran as well as the sayings and actions of Prophet Muhammad while taking this fatwa.

Ramadan 29th falls on Thursday, April 20th, and the moon sighting committee will meet up to confirm the start of Eid. If the crescent moon is spotted on that night, it means that Eid Al Fitr will start on Friday, April 21st.

However, if the moon is not spotted that night, then the first day of Eid will fall on Saturday, April 22nd.

Ramadan is expected to last for 29 days in 2023, according to astronomical calculations, therefore it is very likely to have Eid prayer and Friday prayer on the same day.
