Ramadan 2023: UAE's Moon Sighting Committee to Meet on Tuesday

The country's moon sighting committee will gather today, Tuesday, March 21, after the Maghrib prayer to search for the Ramadan crescent moon.

Although the Lunar Calendar Committee at the Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department continues to gather information and present its results to the Moon-Sighting Committee, Shariah courts around the nation will keep an eye out for sightings and alert the committee.

Many high-ranking officials will be present at the meeting, which will be led by Minister of Justice Abdullah Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi.

In accordance with age-old practice, moon-sighting committees gather after sunset on Shabaan 29 to search for a crescent moon. This marks the beginning of Ramadan's month-long period of fasting and spirituality.

The holy month of Ramadan will begin on Thursday, March 23, if the crescent moon isn't sighted on Tuesday.  According to astronomical predictions, Ramadan is most likely to start on Thursday.
