1 Dead, 2 Hurt in Emirates Road Crash Blamed on Tailgating

A three-car accident on Emirates Road left one driver dead and two others injured on Monday afternoon, according to Dubai Police. The crash happened just past Dubai Club Bridge heading toward Sharjah at around 1:30 pm.

Police say the cause? A driver tailgating too closely—one of the top reasons behind serious crashes in Dubai.

Why Tailgating is So Dangerous

Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, head of Dubai Police’s Traffic Department, explained that not leaving enough space between vehicles often ends in tragedy. Under federal traffic law, tailgaters face a Dh400 fine and four black points.

But that’s not all. Repeat offenders risk having their cars impounded for up to 30 days.

The Three-Second Rule

Road safety experts stress the importance of the “three-second rule.” If the car in front passes a landmark, you should reach that same spot after counting to three. Bad weather? Make it five seconds. It’s a small habit that could save lives.
