Major RAK Highway to Partially Close from Sept 1 for Expansion Works

Heads up, drivers! Starting September 1, sections of Sheikh Mohammed bin Salem Road (E11) in Ras Al Khaimah will be closed for a massive upgrade. The project runs from Al Hamra Roundabout all the way to the E311 intersection, and yes—it’s going to be a game-changer for traffic.

Phase One: Lane Boost + Service Road

First on the list: widening the road from two lanes to four in each direction. A new service road will also pop up to make local traffic smoother. Expect fresh utility upgrades too—electricity, telecom, drainage, irrigation, and even new LED street lights. Temporary detours and a 2 km makeshift road will keep cars moving during this stage.

Phase Two: Bridges and Tunnels

Next up, RAK is going all out with new bridges and tunnels at four hotspots: Dolphin Junction (S4), the E11–E311 Junction (D1), the Red Tunnel (S3), and Mina Al Arab Tunnel (F1/F2). More diversions and extra lanes will be rolled out to keep traffic from bottlenecking.

Why It Matters

With RAK’s population and traffic booming, this revamp is designed to ease the daily grind and set up a modern, efficient road network for the future.
