5 Final Designs for Queen Elizabeth II’s Memorial Unveiled

The journey to honour Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, has taken a beautiful step forward. The government has just revealed a shortlist of five stunning memorial designs, all thoughtfully crafted to celebrate Her Late Majesty’s life, love, and legacy.

The memorial, which will find its forever home in the serene St James’s Park in central London, promises to be more than a monument—it’s a heartfelt tribute to a queen cherished by millions. From regal sculptures to poetic landscapes, the final five concepts are now online for the public to explore and reflect upon.

A Loving Tribute Through Art and Imagination

Queen on horseback

Each design tells a unique story, drawing from Queen Elizabeth’s passions, her enduring spirit, and the deep connection she had with people across the world. Three designs lovingly portray Her Majesty on horseback, a nod to her lifelong love of horses and equestrian elegance. Others incorporate powerful symbols:

  • An oak tree representing her unwavering strength and resilience.
  • Lilies and floral sculptures, embodying purity, grace, and royal beauty.
  • Recordings of the Queen’s voice, bringing her presence to life in an intimate and personal way.

One imaginative concept even includes symbolic bridges and pathways, inviting visitors to walk alongside her legacy—both literally and metaphorically.

Public Participation: Your Voice Matters

As part of this touching process, you’re invited to share your thoughts on these final designs. The Cabinet Office has made all five proposals available online, and now it’s time for the public to join in. Whether your heart leans toward a traditional royal statue or a more modern, emotional interpretation, your voice will help shape a new London landmark.

Baroness Valerie Amos, a key member of the memorial committee, expressed the importance of public engagement, saying:

So much of what the late Queen was about was meeting people and engaging with them. This memorial should reflect that warmth, that sense of connection, and her extraordinary reign.”

A Monument Surrounded by Royal History

St James

The chosen design will be located near familiar royal tributes—close to statues of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and not far from the grand memorial to Queen Victoria near Buckingham Palace. The site is a tranquil corner of St James’s Park, just by the lake and a bridge that may be redesigned as part of the memorial’s creation.

More Than a Monument—A Legacy of Community

The memorial scheme isn’t just about one place—it’s about people, too. Echoing the lasting impact of initiatives like the King George V Playing Fields, the project will support community projects across the UK. This means more green spaces, communal joy, and public benefits that honor Queen Elizabeth’s devotion to service.

With a construction budget set between £23 million and £46 million, the final decision on the winning design is expected later this year. A formal unveiling date is still to be confirmed.

A Lasting Love Letter to the Nation’s Queen

Queen Elizabeth II’s reign of seven extraordinary decades touched hearts across the globe. This upcoming memorial in London will stand as a beautiful love letter to her legacy—graceful, dignified, and full of quiet strength.
