Mother's Day is celebrated on Mar. 21 in the Middle East because the idea of celebrating Mother's Day was introduced to the Arab World by Egyptian journalist Mostafa Amin.

Amin mentioned Mother's Day in his book in 1943 and ten years later he submitted an official request to the government for the holiday and even campaigned for it.

Amin spoke to the Minister of Education to include Mother's Day in the calendar.

In 1956, then-Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser announced that all mothers should be celebrated on Mar. 21 and it was eventually adopted by other countries in the Middle East.
