Sharjah Driver Arrested for 137 Violations, AED 104K in Fine

Sharjah Police have arrested a driver who racked up a massive 137 traffic violations, with fines exceeding AED 104,000. The motorist was using forged licence plates to dodge detection, according to authorities.

Advanced tech led to the arrest

The vehicle was flagged by Sharjah’s smart surveillance systems after it was found to be using mismatched and tampered plates to avoid traffic cameras. The system identified the car and tracked it down, leading to a swift arrest.

308 black points and two years of pending impoundment

Aside from the heavy fines, the vehicle had 308 black points on record and had an outstanding impoundment period of 764 days—more than two years. This marks one of the most serious cases of traffic violations reported recently in the emirate.

Police warn against criminal plate tampering

Colonel Omar Mohammed Bu Ghanem, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department, said the arrest came after coordination between field units and the Command and Control Room. He reminded the public that changing or forging licence plates is a criminal offense—not just a traffic violation.

Sharjah Police stressed that they will continue taking strict action against drivers who put others at risk by breaking traffic laws and trying to cover it up.
