Dubai Launches New AI Pedestrian Crossings

In a high-tech bid to improve traffic safety, Dubai has installed 14 AI-powered pedestrian crossings.

When walkers and bikers use the cutting-edge crossings in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), flashing warning signs and traffic signals for oncoming automobiles are activated.

Before it was released, the Real-Time Perception and Connectivity AI Platform underwent two years of extensive testing.

The new AI-powered smart pedestrian crossings are part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

The innovative project was spearheaded by the DSO free zone in collaboration with Derq, a top provider of artificial intelligence traffic technology.

“The implementation of Derq’s AI Smart Pedestrian Crossing system at Dubai Silicon Oasis aligns directly with the objectives outlined in the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. By integrating this state-of-the-art technology, we are creating an exceptional environment that prioritises innovation, safety, and sustainability,” Muammar Al Katheeri, Chief Officer of Engineering and Sustainability at Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) said.
