Dubai Police Alerts on Fake Travel Deals During Summer

Dubai Police is urging residents to stay safe from fake travel offers that appear online, especially during the holiday and summer season when such scams increase.

The warning comes as part of their ongoing “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign, led by the Anti-Fraud Centre at the General Department of Criminal Investigation. Officials explained that scammers are taking advantage of the rising demand for affordable holiday packages by advertising deals at rates that seem far below usual prices.

Fraudsters create fake websites and social media accounts offering travel packages, hotel stays, and flight tickets to trick victims into paying quickly. Dubai Police stated that these fraudulent entities often use professional logos and branding that make them look like trusted tourism companies.

Scammers also contact individuals through phone or messaging apps, claiming limited seats or short expiration times for offers to pressurize them into booking immediately.

Many victims only realize they've been scammed after transferring money to suspicious accounts or payment links, later finding out that the travel bookings are not genuine. This leads to financial loss and disruptions to holiday plans.

Dubai Police strongly encouraged residents to avoid deals that seem too good to be true and to book vacations and trips only through trusted and licensed travel agencies.

Residents were also reminded to carefully check links before sharing personal or banking information, as some fraudulent websites may look almost identical to legitimate ones but have small differences like spelling or domain name variations.

Officials warned against transferring money to unknown accounts and advised residents not to share banking information, such as card details or security codes, with untrusted sources.

Dubai Police emphasized the importance of reporting any suspicious websites or fraud cases to local authorities to help protect the community during the busy travel season.
