Dubai's 101-Year-Old Expat Unveils Secret to Long Life

Tehemten Homi Dhunjiboy Mehta, a resident of Dubai and a follower of Zoroastrianism, is an atypical centenarian who will celebrate his 102nd birthday on May 9. He is a living example that age is not a barrier to a fulfilling life.
Despite residing alone in a one-bedroom apartment in Dubai Marina, Mehta is still self-sufficient and independent. He performs all of his household tasks by himself. While he bought a home-cleaning robot some time ago, he has yet to unpack and use it.

Mehta is not one to back down from a challenge, and his determination and resilience were evident when he recovered from a leg fracture and a severe fall that forced him to take a break for many months in 2018. Despite his advanced age, he remains active and interested in life. He renewed his UAE driving license until October 2023, even though he hasn't driven since 2004, as he prefers public transportation. Mehta regularly uses the cheap and convenient Dubai Metro, and he enjoys walking as well.

Mehta was born in 1922 in Kenya during the British colonial era. He relocated to Dubai in 1980, where he was employed as an accountant at a luxury hotel in Deira. He continued to work until 2002.

Mehta, who is of Indian origin, doesn't follow the common belief that waking up early is beneficial. Instead, he prefers to start his day at 1:30 pm, enjoys reading and watching TV, and opts for light meals from nearby restaurants or pre-made dishes from the supermarket.
