Ramadan 2024 to Start on This Date Based on Astronomical Projections

Astronomical calculations conducted by the Emirates Astronomical Society foresee the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan on March 11, 2024. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the society's Chairman, asserts a notable shift as Ramadan enters the winter season, a pattern expected to persist until 2031.

Transition to Winter Season

Beginning with the upcoming Ramadan, the winter season will envelop the holy month, continuing until the year 1453 AH in 2031 when a transition to the autumn season is anticipated.

As the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, Ramadan carries profound spiritual importance, symbolizing the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Mohammad. The commencement of Ramadan depends on the sighting of the new crescent moon. Official announcements from Mecca's moon-sighting committee, the holiest city in Islam, guide the determination of Ramadan's commencement. The holy month typically spans 29 or 30 days.
