Sultan Al Neyadi to Start Journey to Home on This Date

Emirati astronaut Dr. Sultan Al Neyadi is scheduled to begin his journey back to Earth on Sep. 1, after completing his six-month space mission at the International Space Station (ISS).

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) made the announcement on Thursday, Aug. 17 that the Space X Dragon spacecraft will return Dr. Al Neyadi and three of his colleagues.

The four astronauts are part of NASA's Crew-6 mission and they will hand over their pending tasks to Crew-7, who are expected to arrive at the ISS next week.

The Space X Dragon spacecraft will undock from the space station no earlier than Friday, Sep. 1 and will splash down off the coast of Florida.

The exact timing of the undocking and splash down are yet to be announced, however, the journey is expected to take up to 16 hours.

When Dr. Al Neyadi returns to Earth, he will first go through rehabilitation, which will involve physiotherapy and various medical tests.

After that, the Emirati astronaut will travel to the UAE where he will participate in various activities before returning to the US for a debrief.

Dr. Al Neyadi's space mission is expected to make way for more extended space missions by UAE astronauts as well as more partnerships with NASA and other international space agencies.
