Astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi Prepares for Arab World's First Spacewalk

The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center announced that Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi and Nasa’s Stephen Bowen are preparing for the Arab world's first spacewalk on Friday, April 28th.

This will make the UAE the tenth in the world in spacewalk missions outside the International Space Station (ISS).

Both astronauts prepared their spacesuit, also known as an Extravehicular Mobility Unit, inside ISS’s Joint Quest Airlock, which is the actual exit for performing spacewalks.

The spacewalk will kick off at about 5.15pm and will last for about 6.5 hours “in the vacuum of space, continuing the process of upgrading the station’s power generation system,” according to Nasa.

Spacewalks are essential to maintaining and developing the capabilities of the ISS.
