UAE Condemns Attack on Embassy in Damascus

The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned an attack on its embassy in Damascus, which it described as “acts of rioting,” urging Syrian authorities to ensure the protection of diplomatic missions in accordance with international law.

Videos circulating on social media revealed protesters gathering outside the UAE embassy, sparking concerns about the security of diplomatic premises in Syria's capital.

In an official statement, the UAE foreign ministry expressed “strong condemnation and denunciation” of the unrest, attempted vandalism, and assaults targeting its embassy and the residence of the head of its mission. The statement also emphasized the rejection of “unacceptable abuses” against the UAE’s national symbols.

The ministry reiterated the importance of adhering to international legal standards, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees the safety and inviolability of diplomatic missions and their personnel. "The UAE called on Syria to fulfill its obligations to secure the embassy and its staff, investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, prevent any recurrence, and take all necessary legal measures to hold those responsible accountable," the statement read.

Syria’s foreign ministry also addressed the incident earlier, reaffirming its “firm and unwavering” stance against any attacks or violations targeting foreign diplomatic entities. In a statement released via state media, it underscored that “diplomatic missions are protected under international law and represent a symbol of relations between states and peoples.”

The Syrian ministry condemned offensive slogans or actions directed at foreign states while acknowledging citizens’ rights to express their views. However, it stressed the importance of maintaining public security, adhering to the law, and avoiding the targeting of diplomatic premises.
