UAE Private Sector Holiday Announced for Prophet Muhammad's Birthday

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has declared Friday, September 5, 2025 (12th of Rabi Al-Awwal) as a paid public holiday for the UAE’s private sector, marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

This announcement follows an earlier confirmation that federal government employees will also receive the same day off.

Observance of the Prophet’s Birthday

Unlike festive celebrations, the Prophet’s birthday is considered a day of spiritual reflection. Muslims are encouraged to spend time in worship—whether by fasting, reading the Quran, or engaging in prayers. The observance honors the birth of Prophet Muhammad in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, around 570 AD. While the exact Gregorian date is uncertain, Muslims worldwide commemorate his birth annually on the 12th of Rabi Al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar.

Remaining UAE Public Holidays in 2025

UAE residents still have a few public holidays to look forward to before the year ends. National Day (Eid Al Etihad) will be observed on December 2 and 3, which fall on a Tuesday and Wednesday, offering the possibility of an extended mid-week break.

Additionally, Commemoration Day is officially observed on November 30, but is usually marked on December 1, potentially creating a four-day weekend from December 1–4 for many residents.

With the Prophet’s Birthday holiday and National Day still ahead, UAE workers can look forward to several long weekends before closing out 2025.
