Dubai World Cup Carnival 2023 Begins January 6th

Dubai World Cup Carnival's opening will begin with the Group 2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 at Meydan Racecourse today at 8:20 PM.

The seven-race card features five stakes races and a G2 contest over a mile on dirt featuring a capacity field of 16 including the first four home in last year's race – Golden Goal, Secret Ambition, Kafoo and Thegreatcollection.

Golden Goal is attempting to become the second horse to win the $250,000 contest twice, after Le Bernardin in 2016 and 2017

Golden Goal has trained under seven-time UAE champion Doug Watson. Meanwhile, Sam Hitchcock joined Prince Eiji, winner of Listed Dubai Creek a month ago.

Pat Cosgrave will ride Golden Goal, while Oscar Chavez will ride Everfast. Richard Mullen will be on thegreatcollection and Danny Tudhope will pick up the spare ride on Midnight Sands.

The main support race and turf feature is the 1,400m Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort. It is a race in which Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby is hoping for fifth win in six years. Appleby saddles Group 3 Jersey Stakes winner Noble Truth, the mount of William Buick, with James Doyle in the saddle aboard stable companion Al Suhail.
