Emirates Freezes Dubai–Damascus Flights Until Further Notice

Emirates is hitting pause on its flights to Damascus starting November 15, and the airline says the move is part of a routine operational review — basically, a recheck of fleet usage to make sure everything is aligned with their current business goals.

But don’t worry, the Dubai–Damascus connection isn’t completely gone. flydubai will continue to operate the route, and passengers already booked with Emirates will be moved over.

Why the Suspension?

According to Emirates, this decision comes after a standard internal review of operations. No drama, no major incident — just the airline reshuffling its fleet and routes to match business strategy.

All passengers with bookings after November 14, 2025 will automatically be rebooked on flydubai. Emirates said it apologizes for the inconvenience and hopes to resume the route “at the earliest opportunity.”

A Brief Timeline of Emirates’ Return to Damascus

Emirates only resumed its Damascus flights in July this year, following a long pause since 2012 due to Syria’s civil war. Here’s how the restart went:

  • July 16: Service relaunched with three flights a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Sundays).

  • August 2: Expanded to four weekly flights with a Saturday addition.

  • October 26: Upgraded to daily service using a 302-seat Boeing 777-200LR.

The return was approved after a full review with the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, and other carriers — including Etihad and flydubai — continued to operate to the Syrian capital.

What Happens Now?

For now, flydubai will handle all travel between Dubai and Damascus. If you're already booked with Emirates, you won’t need to take any action — the airline is handling the rebooking for you.

Stay tuned, though. Emirates says this suspension is temporary, and the Dubai–Damascus flights could make a comeback once their operational plans shift again.
