Etihad Rail to Open Madinat Zayed and Liwa Stations Early

Etihad Rail will open its Madinat Zayed and Liwa passenger stations on November 30, 2026, earlier than planned, giving the UAE’s national rail network a boost in the Al Dhafra region just in time for the annual events and festival season.

The new opening date was announced after Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, met an Etihad Rail delegation led by Shadi Malak, the company’s CEO, at Al Nakheel Palace in Abu Dhabi.

Several senior executives from Etihad Rail also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed reviewed the latest updates on the UAE National Railway Network, including future passenger stations in Al Dhafra and joint projects in Al Sila’a.

He was also briefed on Etihad Rail’s major achievements, especially the start of passenger rail services between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah on June 30, which marked the launch of passenger train services in the UAE.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed said the support of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for major national projects is key to building the UAE’s vision for an integrated, sustainable, and world-class transport system. He also praised Etihad Rail for its work on this landmark project, which improves connectivity across the UAE and supports the country’s long-term development goals.

He also said the opening of the Mohammed bin Zayed City passenger railway station in Abu Dhabi by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, is an important step forward for the UAE’s transport and infrastructure sector.
