UAE President Pardons 963 Prisoners in Eid Al Adha Gesture

It’s not just Eid Al Adha that brings a wave of joy this week—President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has just ordered the release of 963 prisoners across the UAE in a major gesture of compassion.

And that’s not all. As part of this thoughtful initiative, the President will also cover the financial obligations tied to the inmates’ sentences—giving them a real shot at a clean slate.

This annual act of mercy is meant to promote forgiveness, second chances, and family unity during one of Islam’s most sacred holidays. According to the official statement, the move is designed to help those released "start a new life, strengthen family ties, and instill the values of forgiveness and compassion in society.”

This isn't the first time Sheikh Mohamed has stepped up. Earlier this year, 1,295 inmates were granted freedom just in time for Ramadan, showcasing a consistent commitment to second chances and social healing.

As Eid approaches, the release will undoubtedly bring relief to hundreds of families ready to welcome their loved ones back home—right in time for celebration.

So yes, this Eid is about more than feasts and family gatherings—it’s about hope, mercy, and fresh starts.
