UAE Resumes School Bus Services as Students Return to Classrooms

The UAE's Ministry of Education announced on Saturday, April 18, the resumption of school bus operations nationwide starting Monday, April 20.

The decision, made in collaboration with local educational authorities, applies to all public and private schools in the UAE, marking a return to normal transportation services after a temporary suspension during the recent precautionary phase.

Previously, the Ministry of Education had postponed school bus services for nurseries, kindergartens, and schools nationwide as part of protective measures implemented to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The Sharjah Private Education Authority has also confirmed that student transport services will restart in the emirate on April 20. Similarly, the Ajman Private Education Affairs Office announced the resumption of school bus services across all private schools in Ajman on the same date.

The return of bus services aligns with students across the UAE heading back to in-person learning on the same day, marking a significant transition back to classroom education following more than a month of remote learning.

Education regulators have increased readiness checks, training programs, and operational reviews to ensure a safe and structured reopening across institutions nationwide.

In an official announcement on April 17, the Ministry of Education stated, "The resumption of in-person learning for all enrolled children, students, educational staff, and administrative staff in public and private nurseries, kindergartens, and schools effective Monday, 20 April 2026."

Universities Confirm Return to Face-to-Face Classes

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has confirmed that in-person learning will resume across all public and private universities from April 20.

Institutions have completed safety checks, campus readiness assessments, and staff preparedness measures to ensure the smooth transition back to face-to-face learning. However, some universities may retain limited flexibility to continue hybrid or remote learning based on operational needs.

Why Did Schools Move to Online Learning?

Schools shifted to online learning as a precaution due to regional security concerns stemming from the ongoing conflict. Authorities extended remote classes in phases while continuously reviewing the situation.

Online learning was first introduced on March 2 as a precautionary measure during uncertain times linked to the regional conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. While initially planned as a temporary measure, authorities extended the arrangement stage by stage to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Remote learning was also extended beyond the recent school break as authorities continued prioritizing safety amid a fragile ceasefire in the US-Israel-Iran conflict.

With a ceasefire now in place, the education sector's cautious but significant return to in-person learning signals an important step toward normalcy.
