UAE's Etihad-Sat to be Launched on This Date

The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre is set to launch the radar satellite, Etihad-Sat, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 carrier rocket from a spaceport in California on Saturday, Mar. 15.

Etihad-Sat is MBRSC's first synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite, weighing 220 kilograms. The satellite is equipped with technology, which is able to monitor Earth in any weather.

The satellite will detect oil spills, monitor natural disasters, help improve navigation at sea, and support agriculture and environment.

UAE's first SAR satellite, Foresight-1, was launched by YahSat and Bayanat, which are two Abu Dhabi organisations that merged to form an AI-powered space technology business called Space42.

The MBRSC has launched six Eart observation satellites since 2009.
