Dubai Expat to Be Deported for Assaulting a Female Officer

A 43-year-old German woman has been sentenced to six months in jail and will be deported from the UAE after being found guilty of assaulting and verbally abusing a female police officer in Dubai.

The incident occurred on April 15, 2024, at the Bur Dubai Police Station's criminal investigations office. The woman had gone to the station to report a theft when the situation took an unexpected turn.

What Happened?

According to reports, the woman became agitated during her interaction with a second lieutenant. She began using inappropriate language, which led the officer to ask her to stop. Instead of calming down, the defendant physically attacked the officer, slapping, punching, and kicking her. A medical report confirmed that the officer sustained visible injuries from the attack.

Witness Testimony

A fellow officer who witnessed the incident stated that the altercation began when a man entered the room to inquire about a previous report. This apparently triggered the defendant, who then lashed out at the officer.

“The defendant became upset and started issuing inappropriate insults, at which point my colleague asked her to stop,” the witness said.

He added, “The woman not only used offensive language but also physically attacked my colleague without provocation.”

The Defence Argument

The defendant denied the charges, claiming she acted in self-defense after being slapped by the officer first. She also presented a medical report indicating psychological issues. However, the court found no evidence supporting her claim that she was slapped, nor did it accept her argument of mental incapacity.

The Verdict

The Dubai court ruled that the defendant’s actions—insulting and assaulting a public servant while on duty—violated UAE law. Although the court acknowledged the psychological report, it determined that her mental state did not diminish her responsibility for the attack.

As a result, the woman was sentenced to six months in jail, followed by deportation upon completing her sentence.

This case highlights the UAE’s firm stance on upholding respect for law enforcement officers and maintaining public order.
