Salik Unveils New Toll Gate Rates for Ramadan

Dubai’s electronic toll gate system, Salik, is introducing dynamic pricing starting Friday, January 31, as part of an initiative to ease congestion on the city's busiest roads. This change, moving away from the flat rate of Dhs4 per entry, will also see adjustments tailored specifically for the holy month of Ramadan.

Ramadan Toll Gate Adjustments

As Ramadan is expected to begin on Friday, February 28, or Saturday, March 1, Salik has announced toll fee changes to accommodate those fasting. These adjustments aim to support the Ramadan schedule, particularly during Iftar (breaking the fast at sunset) and Suhoor (pre-dawn meals).

Between 2am and 7am daily, drivers passing through any of the 10 Salik toll gates will not be charged. This will allow worshippers to participate in sunrise prayers without incurring toll fees. This free window is an adjustment from the general year-round timing of 1am to 6am.

Additionally, there will be a reduction in toll fees during the morning rush hour. From 7am to 9am on weekdays, drivers will pay AED4 instead of the usual AED6.

Peak and Off-Peak Ramadan Rates

  • 2am – 7am daily: Free
  • 9am to 5pm (weekdays): AED6
  • 5pm to 2am (weekdays): AED4
  • Sundays (7am to 2am): Free

The eight-hour peak charge period (9am to 5pm) consolidates what would typically be two four-hour peak blocks outside of Ramadan. The evening off-peak period, from 5pm to 2am, has been extended to allow more affordable travel during Iftar.

What to Expect Year-Round

Once the dynamic pricing system is fully implemented, the standard rates will charge AED6 between 6am and 10am and 4pm to 8pm on weekdays, with a reduced rate of AED4 during other times. On Sundays, drivers will only pay between 7am and 2am, with a free window from 2am to 7am.

Supporting the Community During Ramadan

These adjustments highlight Salik’s efforts to accommodate the unique needs of the community during Ramadan, ensuring smoother travel and more manageable toll fees for those observing the holy month. Whether attending prayers, heading to Iftar, or traveling for Suhoor, the revised rates aim to ease the financial and logistical burdens on drivers.
