UAE Announces Paid New Year Holiday for Private Sector Employees

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) confirmed that private sector employees in the UAE will get a paid public holiday on Thursday, January 1, 2026, to celebrate the New Year.

This follows the Cabinet’s approved list of official holidays for both public and private sectors.

Federal Employees: Remote Work Option

For federal government employees, January 1 is also a paid holiday. On Friday, January 2, employees can work remotely — except those whose roles require on-site presence, who are expected to report as usual.

Sharjah Public Sector Gets Four Days Off

Sharjah government employees get an extended break this year, with January 1 as a public holiday, combined with the weekend for a four-day holiday, resuming work on Monday, January 5.

The move ensures everyone can start 2026 with some well-deserved rest and family time.
