UAE’s New AI Car to Patrol Streets and Spot Visa, Residency Violations

The UAE just introduced its latest innovation in law enforcement — a fully electric “smart inspection car” built to detect visa and residency violations using artificial intelligence.

Developed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP), the car comes equipped with six cameras that provide 360-degree coverage and can scan faces within a 10-meter radius. It’s powered by AI and features a custom dashboard that shows heat maps and real-time alerts for officers on duty.

“It’s fully electrical, and it’s working with AI, so it gives you some heat maps,” said Faris Almaeeni, Manager of the Foreign Affairs Systems Department at ICP.

Still Driven by Humans — for Now

While the car’s tech does most of the scanning and flagging, officers are still behind the wheel. Once someone is flagged, the officer steps in to verify documents and handle things the traditional way.

“This is not fully automated,” Almaeeni explained. “The officer will go down, speak with the person, and resolve the issue through legal procedures.”

Coming First to Dubai in 2026

The first fleet of smart inspection cars is set to roll out in Dubai by early 2026, with more units expected to follow across the emirates.

The project is part of the ICP’s bigger push to digitalize inspection and immigration services. During the first half of 2025 alone, the ICP recorded over 32,000 visa violations, and the new system aims to make detection faster and more accurate.
