UAE President Accepts US Invitation to Join Gaza ‘Board of Peace’

The UAE is stepping into a bigger role in Gaza’s future after President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan accepted an invitation from the US to join the newly formed “Board of Peace.”

The announcement was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) on January 20, marking the UAE as one of several Arab countries taking part in the next phase of Washington’s Gaza peace plan.

Why the UAE Joined the Board

According to MoFA, the decision reflects the UAE’s support for fully implementing US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza. The ministry said the plan is key to protecting the legitimate rights of Palestinians and pushing the region toward long-term stability.

In short: the UAE sees this as a practical step toward peace, not just another diplomatic gesture.

Reem Al Hashimy Named to Gaza Executive Board

The move also follows the appointment of Reem Al Hashimy, the UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, to the Gaza Executive Board. This group acts as a bridge between the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) and the wider Board of Peace.

Her role puts the UAE directly inside the decision-making loop as plans shift from talks to action.

What the ‘Board of Peace’ Is Supposed to Do

The White House says the Trump-chaired board will oversee Gaza’s path toward peace and reconstruction. Its job includes coordinating international funding, setting strategic direction, and making sure commitments actually turn into results.

This board is part of phase two of the US-backed 20-point plan to end the Gaza conflict.

Demilitarisation Front and Center

Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, said the process will focus heavily on the full demilitarisation of Gaza. That includes disarming all unauthorised armed groups as reconstruction begins.

For now, the message is clear: peace talks are shifting into implementation mode, and the UAE is officially on board.
